About FontPreview – Compare Fonts
See your text in every font on your Mac, side by side.
Type a headline, a name, a slogan, a wedding line and FontPreview sets it in every installed font at once, in up to four columns. No scrolling through a font menu that shows twenty names in the menu's own typeface. Just your words, in all your fonts, at the size you choose.
ONE ROW PER FAMILY
A typeface like Avenir Next comes as twelve fonts; you don't need twelve rows to choose it. FontPreview shows each font family once, set in its regular style, with the other weights and styles a click away underneath. Prefer the long list? One switch shows every font on its own row.
HEADLINE OR PARAGRAPH
Keep the sample on one line, or wrap it and see a whole paragraph set in each font, so you can judge a body text font by its texture and not just its letters. Not sure what to type? The sample menu offers pangrams, the classic "Hamburgefonstiv", alphabets, numerals, look-alike characters, accents and punctuation, and remembers the texts you have used.
WHICH FONTS CAN ACTUALLY SHOW YOUR TEXT
Every column has two tabs. Rendered lists the fonts that can draw every character of your text. Missing lists the rest, with a count, and hovering a font shows exactly which characters it lacks. Type an accented letter, a currency sign or an emoji and watch fonts move between the tabs. Fonts that can't show any of your text display a sample of the characters they do contain, so symbol and non-Latin fonts finally look like themselves.
COMPARE SIDE BY SIDE
One to four columns, each with its own name filter, kind filter and favorites switch. Narrow a column to serif, sans serif, monospaced, script or symbol fonts. Show every font with "Neue" in its name next to your shortlist, or the whole list next to a search, and compare across them.
KEEP A SHORTLIST
Hover any row and click the star. Favorites stay across launches, and every change can be undone.
FROM SHORTLIST TO YOUR DOCUMENT
Right-click a font to copy the sample as styled text: paste it into Pages, Keynote, Mail or anything that takes rich text, already in that font. Copy it as a high-resolution image with a transparent background for a mockup. Copy the font's name or PostScript name. Show the file in the Finder, or open it in Font Book.
MADE FOR TODAY'S MAC
Rebuilt for macOS 12 and later. Light and dark mode. Automatic colors that follow the system appearance, or pick your own text and background. Fast: 900 fonts scan in about a second, and changing the text updates every column in place.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Nothing leaves your Mac. No account, no analytics, no network access.
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
FontPreview does not install, organize or remove fonts (that's Font Book's job and FontPreview hands off to it). It shows the fonts already installed on your Mac; it does not preview font files you haven't installed.
Requires macOS 12 Monterey or later.
